why get certified with us?
there are a lot of pilates trainings right now, many focused on mat or reformer alone. both matter, but the magic of pilates is in the system: how the exercises connect across the mat + apparatus, why the order matters + how the work meets the person in front of you.
at ritual, we teach from the classical method. you’ll study the repertoire + the reasoning behind it, alongside anatomy, observation, cueing, programming + hands-on practice. you’ll learn to recognize what’s happening, make thoughtful choices + adapt when needed.
good teaching takes more than knowing the exercises. it takes practice, attention + the ability to meet the person in front of you. throughout the program, you’ll study the work, practice it in your own body, observe experienced teachers + begin teaching with support.
space is limited to to preserve the integrity of each cohort.
-
over the course of 6 weekends, we will learn Anatomy, History of Pilates/Scope of Practice and a breakdown of every exercise, muscle focus, and contraindications. we also spend time learning how to put together programming for private sessions, and group classes.
-
these hours can be completed at home + in the studio, with time spent on each apparatus. you can work from your manual, take a class or practice with a certified pilates teacher in your area. we’ll share a list of preferred studios if you’re completing hours away from ritual.
repetition strengthens your understanding of the work. as the movements become more familiar in your own body, you begin to notice patterns + develop a relationship to the work. self-practice helps you hone your teaching voice so you can articulate the work authentically, from experience.
-
these hours can be completed in person or online through platforms like pilatesology. watch experienced teachers work with groups + private clients, and take notes on what you see. notice how they structure a session, choose exercises, cue movement + respond to the person in front of them. observation gives you a chance to see the decisions behind the teaching, not just the exercises themselves.
-
you can begin teaching after the first training weekend. practice with friends, family, fellow trainees + anyone willing to learn with you.
as apparatus is introduced throughout the training, you can begin incorporating that work into your practice teaching.work with a range of bodies and abilities. each person will ask something different of your teaching, giving your language depth beyond what you can learn from a manual.
we also encourage you to work with at least one person over a series of sessions. seeing someone progress through the pilates system helps you notice what changes over time + how your teaching changes with them.
-
upon completion of your hours, you will schedule a date to take your exams. after successful completion of both a written and practical exam you will be a Certified Pilates Teacher, and ready to sit for the national certification exam (NCPT), should you choose.
